The Wagner Tuning Competition EVO2 Gen.2 intercooler kit is a direct upgrade for the Audi 80 S2 and RS2, giving the 2.2 20V turbo engine a much more capable charge air cooling solution than the standard fitment. By cooling the compressed air from the turbo more effectively before it enters the engine, the intercooler helps deliver denser, cooler air, which supports more consistent power, especially during sustained hard driving.

This is a revised version of Wagner’s popular S2/RS2 cooler, developed to work alongside their short intake manifold and refined for better flow and fitment.

What the upgrade does

Compared with the original RS2 intercooler, this kit offers an 18% larger inflow area and 65% more internal volume. That extra capacity, combined with a modern tube-fin core, means the charge air spends more time being cooled and faces less restriction on its way through. In practical terms, the engine sees lower intake temperatures and is less prone to heat soak, so power delivery stays stronger lap after lap or on long, spirited drives.

The cast aluminium end tanks have been shaped using CAD flow analysis to smooth the air path in and out of the core. This helps reduce pressure drop, which is the loss of boost pressure as air travels through the cooler.

Fitment and installation

The kit is designed as a direct replacement for the factory intercooler on the Audi 80 S2 and RS2 fitted with the 2.2 20V turbo engine. No cutting or major modification is required, and the supplied stainless steel crossmember, silicone hoses and mounting hardware allow the cooler to sit correctly in the original location.
